Have your driving privileges been suspended or revoked due to a DUI?

If so, you will need a new evaluation and treatment review.

What Is A Treatment Review/Waiver?

When seeking reinstatement of your driving privileges from the Secretary of State you are expected to be evaluated by a certified alcohol and drug counselor who works in a facility that has been approved by the Department of Alcoholism and Substance Abuse (DASA). The purpose of the evaluation is to determine if you are “still” a risk to public safety. Please know that evaluations are only binding for six (6) months.

A treatment review is done in order to determine whether a treatment waiver will be granted by an evaluator who did not provide either your original evaluation and or treatment services.

During the review process the new evaluator will review your evaluation and treatment experiences. This will generally be done at the first interview session (provided you bring in all necessary documentation.

During this session, your new evaluator will have a dialog with you regarding changes that have been made in response to your treatment experience-all the while assessing whether or not your last treatment experience was successful. If it was, a treatment waiver will be done. If your treatment experience was not determined to be successful, you will be provided with a new recommended level of care. A treatment waiver is a comprehensive summary of your driving history, alcohol and/or drug history, treatment experience, and overall lifestyle choices since your last DUI.

*note-Treatment is typically “never” waived when a relapse or return to use or abusive use occurred following your last treatment experience.

Documents needed for your treatment review appoint:

  • ·         Original evaluation,
  • ·         Risk education
  • ·         Completion certificate,
  • ·         Treatment discharge summary,
  • ·         Aftercare/continuing care summary, and
  •       Traditional/Non-traditional (i.e. AA, NA, Church)
